A Gettysburg Casino?

Let’s ruin some more American History!

A reader sent me this note last night about another case of greed running rampant and I thought I’d pass it along. For anyone who is a fan of American history and ghost hunting, an upcoming proposal can prove truly devastating to the spirit, environment and charm of Gettysburg, PA.

So contact the park directors and tell them what’s what!

Thanks Amber for the heads-up.

From Amber (May 16, 2005):
Hi! I’ve long been a fan of your site & always meant to mention it, although I’ve never gotten around to it. But I’m contacting you now with important info that all Gettysburg frequent visitors need to know. On May 2, the NPS (National Park Service) announced that the Park Superintendent wants to permanently change the park hours from dawn until dusk effective Oct. 1. The public comment period on this only lasts through May 31, there will be no public hearings. It’s all very backhanded & if I hadn’t been in Gettysburg last week, I probably never would have know about this until it’s too late. Please do all Gettysburg-lovers a service & post this info on your site so that people can voice their disagreement with the proposed policy. You can contact the park directors at GETT_Superintendent@nps.gov. Some of us have also sent letters to the Gettysburg Times and even our local newspapers just to let people know what they’re trying to do.Coincidentally, this proposal came just days after another controversial proposal was announced to build a casino in Gettysburg. I think the park brass probably has some financial stake in the casino/spa & thinks they can force visitors to spend their evenings there instead of on the battlefield. Please do what you can to let people know what’s going on and how they can help.

Thanks for your time – Amber

I didn’t want to publish Amber’s email address. So if you want more information from her, let me know and I will pass your request along.
