Party @ Club Midway

An assortment of music, meat and friends

Tonight my friend Margo of Organic Entertainment was celebrating her 30 birthday. More than just a happy hour, this was a full on party. It was nice to hang with old friends. There were friends here I had not seen since WE Fest in May.

Tonight I was at Club Midway (25 Ave B, NYC) because my friend Margo of Organic Entertainment was celebrating her 30 birthday. More than just a happy hour, this was a full on party. It was nice to hang with old friends. There were friends here I had not seen since WE Fest in May. And my friend Aaron was here who I had not seen since a brutally hot video shoot in Harlem last summer. I really hate the way time can get away from me.

There was an assortment of Midway’s delicious food which included various meats, cheeses, fruits, veggies, crackers and spring rolls. I could smell the So C0 from across the bar. I could point out the best bottle of bourbon in the house without even looking. Many years of training were finally paying off. Well, sorta. We all joked about it since I was not drinking. It was a good time as the sounds of classic soul was served up by Spencer from Pull My Soul Finger.

Soon it was time for the evening’s live performances by Carmen Sclafani of the band Wiser Time and Dan Rosen of the band Second Dan. At first it seemed odd setting them up in the back of the bar, by the food and facing sideways. But there is such an amazing energy in this place that it is the perfect place for quiet, acoustic sets. they normally only have live music in the basement here. Perhaps this little mini-showcase will bring about more up here.

Several people pointed out to Margo that she looked downright ecstatic. Through her gleaming smile she said that she was so relieved to be turning thirty because, “It felt like it took so long to get here.” To which I joked, “Oh don’t worry, it speeds up from here!” It was refreshing to hear someone embracing their birthday. So many of my friends tend to get melancholy a the thought of another year gone by. When as we all know … it’s certainly better than the alternative.
