Gibbypalooza at Maxwell’s

A new home for the annual celebrations. With the future of regular host club CBGB in question, the party needed to be moved to another classic area spot.

To describe what I walked in as a slowdown in the rain would have been called a downpour on any other night. It was a testament to just how hard it had been raining all day. It’s less than a block and a half to Maxwell’s so I took a deep breath and walked quickly around the corner.

I decided to wait under the Helmer’s awning until the light changed. No point in spending more time than needed in this weather. The light changed so I took off across the street. Despite the short distance I almost got hit by three cars. I hate NJ drivers (except me of course).

Safe inside it was Gibby’s (High Speed Chase) birthday. Normally this would be at CBGB but since the future of the club was unknown at the time of planning, we were at Maxwell’s. It was a fun night which included cake and the tossing of fake money at the band. Well that is except for one really drunk dude who took out his wallet and started throwing real money. PRICELESS! Anyway …

A real standout of the night was the band Sworn. Gibby calls them Indie Cock Rock. Take emotive sensibility and add the energy of rock with fine dual guitar work. Very nice. Also performing were Dawn Botti, Full Out Freak and of course High Speed Chase.
