I’m saving my pennies up for one of these

A lot of bands struggle to find a new way for their tiny CD packaging stand out in the sea of other tiny CD packaging. 3D images, etched plastic animation, complicated foldouts, posters, etc. Out of all the tricks I’ve seen, this one takes the cake.

Experimental artist Moldover has embedded a fully-functioning light Theremin into the packaging of his latest CD. Rather than the typical plastic backing, this CD is mounted on a custom designed circuit board that includes the track listings, album artwork and the instrument’s inner workings — complete with a headphone jack.

The full-sized “Awesome Edition” is $50. He also offers a mini version that fits in your pocket for $25. Sweet!

So, what this guy has done was create a product that, even if you don’t like the music, you may buy just for the novelty of the hidden instrument. I know I wanna be that guy on the subway with gawkers wondering about my weird actions. And not for the usual reasons…
