O’Bama is Irish

Luck, lineage and a convincing musical argument. In celebration of our new President, this video proves beyond a shadow of a pint that O’Bama is Irish.

I was thinking recently (ever since the election, really) about how lucky we are to have this man representing us to the world. And that feeling of luck reminded me of a song that was circulating the web during Obama’s campaign.

The Corrigan Brothers (formerly known as Hardy Drew and the Nancy Boys) recorded the tune ‘There’s No One as Irish as Barack O’Bama’ that proves beyond a shadow of a pint that Barrack O’Bama is Irish. Or at least an ancestor was.

Falmouth Kearney, born in Moneygall County Offaly, left Ireland at the age of 19 in 1850 to start a new life in America. Arriving in New York, he made his way to Ohio where he was a farmhand. Ten years later, he was a farmer in Indiana.

Kearney’s reasons for the journey has been disputed. Was he looking to escape the great famine? Or was it something less heroic like looking to work for his uncle?

Well, whatever the reason, the story is out there now. And although Obama is our first multi-racial president, he joins the ranks of Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan and John F. Kennedy as Presidents with Irish ancestry.

As we celebrate our new President, enjoy this updated post-election version of the song ‘There’s No One as Irish as Barack O’Bama’.
