Jake and Bruce Shimabukuro performing in 2000
Fans of Ukulele music are no doubt familiar with the works of Jake and Bruce Shimabukuro.
Older brother Jake in particular has grown to legendary status thanks to the many viral videos of his intense virtuosity on the tiny instrument. Although Bruce may be the lesser-known of the two, he is by no means a lesser talent.
This video shows a young Jake and Bruce tearing it up with a reworking of “Stars & Stripes Forever” at Okinawan Festival in September 2000 in Waikiki, HI.
Jake apparently devised this arrangement in high school. My favorite part is when the plug falls out of Bruce’s ukulele and they can’t stop laughing.
