The Fat Black Pussycat

Can you say half-price, top-shelf happy hour?
Looking like a bar set inside a hunting lodge, the cheap drinks were flowing. But wait, there’s more.

Can you say half-price, top-shelf happy hour?

As if meeting friends I had not seen in far too long wasn’t reason enough to trek down to The Fat Black Pussycat (130 W 3rd, NYC). How about half-price happy hour, Monday thru Friday from 4 – 8PM?

The cheap drinks were flowing at and the pours were coming from the top shelf on down. My shot of Jack and mug of Yuengling totaled a mere $5.50. Plus, for you martini drinkers, they pride themselves in having 31 varieties. These were just the first of many surprises tucked away in this West Village spot.

Round one. Oh and did I forget to mention the cute bartender?

The main bar would be at home in a hunting lodge. Rugged, dark with what looked like white Christmas lights strung along the ceiling. The music didn’t fit the decor. Oh, I’m not complaining. Cool jazz-tinged hip hop, classic 80s soul and eventually a little Radiohead for good measure. I fully expected — but was relieved to be wrong — that I’d hear nothing but some cliched classic rock.

A walk around revealed a karaoke lounge and then a club room with what sounded like a performance of West Side Story (I kid you not). Each room had it’s own look and feel unique from the others. With a Moroccan-inspired lounge, an upscale club and a down-home bar, they really do have something for everyone.

I cannot believe I’ve never been here before.
