And we all thought Google and Digg were in bed
All of the annoying little changes on Digg of late hinted at changes coming down the road. Most figured Google would swoop in and buy it up. They may still. But this little added feature that allows users to login in with their Facebook info could tell something else. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
Could be good. Could be nothing. Could be panic in the face of Twitter.
These two giants in the social media arena have been given a wake up call by that 140-character-or-less punk upstart. A worthy opponent made more scary due to its seeming lack of business model or desire to even create one.
Facebook has already changed it’s ‘status’ updates to mimic Twitter. Plus they’ve added a ‘thumbs up’ voting style. So it’s no big stretch to see them teaming up with Digg. What’s next … a Digg status update?

And before all of the “duh, this is OpenID” comments start spewing in … No, no it is not. OpenID allows you to use any one of a plethora of logins to gain access to a site. This is simply a partnership between two entities.
Umm, isn’t that just an FConnect plugin? Lots of sites use it, in fact I think it’s even available as a WordPress plugin…
I am sure Digg was already thinking about using Facebook well before Twitter became mainstream. I would assume that most of the people working at Facebook and Digg are web savy. They would have known about Twitters possible success and made plans. A majority probably have Twitter accounts and use it regularly.
