A warm, welcoming little diner with fast, friendly service and delicious food.
I headed out on a foggy, cold morning to check out a place to eat in a nearby town. T.P.’s Cafe (7 Railroad Ave, Stamford NY) was highly recommended to me by someone who works in one of the shops in Hobart. It’s a cozy, family-friendly spot serving hearty breakfasts by a friendly staff. The indoor space fills up quickly with local folks who all seem to know each other (because they probably do). The also offer some outdoor seating.
The food here gets rave reviews and is prepared in plain sight just past the small counter. I went for the short stack of pancakes with eggs and sausage and a hot tea. A robust plateful of comfort for under $14.00 — you can’t go wrong. They don’t accept credit cards but you can pay with cash, Venmo, or local check. My food was served with a smile and pleasant small talk. It was a very relaxing setting, despite being quite busy.
After breakfast, I took a walk around Stamford (aka ‘The Queen of The Catskills’). As the sun burned thru the fog and the area began to wake up, it was comparatively quiet to what I’m used to. The street I’m on had a number of store fronts including galleries, antique shops, cafes, auto parts, hardware, and a Tops grocery store. There are apartments, a small motel, and a little park honoring veterans where they hold live music events throughout the summer. The library was bustling with activity. A number of large, silence-shattering trucks rolled by.
T.P.’s Cafe is a warm, welcoming little diner with fast, friendly service and delicious food. I highly recommend it. On my next trip I will stop by again to try their lunch menu, which looks delicious.
