I don’t really get to Boonton much, but …

As I walked through the door I ran into Kevin Cameron who was the Executive Producer of this music and art event. Kevin is an assemblage artist and some of his unique sculptures were on display. He is also a graphic artist and designer.

As I walked through the door I ran into Kevin Cameron who was the Executive Producer of this music and art event. Kevin is an assemblage artist and some of his unique sculptures were on display. He is also a graphic artist and designer. Along with his work were the illuminated illustrations of Porl Gordon (the DJ for the evening) and the paintings Lloyd Gold (the singer for that night’s band ‘My Pocket Zoo”).

Connexions (202 Myrtle Ave, Boonton – 973-263-4000) is an interesting venue for this type of show. Well, actually it’s an interesting venue altogether. A large place with a very friendly staff who made it clear that smiling and having fun were not only allowed, but expected. The art was displayed in an area that was set up to resemble the platform of an old fashioned train station. Seperating it from the main dance floor was a wall of exposed brick and wood lattice. The crowd jumped joyfully through the rays of classic disco lighting, energized by the intergalactic skiffle sound of My Pocket Zoo All heads were adorned with cardboard gold crowns and plastic tiaras. Candles floated in beer glasses filled with colored water.

Connexions is best known for Karaoke Mondays, Country Line Dancing Tuesdays, Drag Show Wednesdays, Dance Nights on Friday and Saturday and casual buffets on Sundays. It is Kevin’s intention to have weekly Rex Thursdays with one large party each month. I hope he does, both for the fun of it and for the fact that we now have another fine showcase for getting to know the works of talented artists and musicians.
