Sláinte Opens on Bowery

304 Bowery (at First St.) NYC

New Irish nightspot Sláinte has opened its doors on Bowery. This is a great space. Rustic, exposed brick all around and old fashioned maritime maps adorning one wall bring a bit of old-world charm to the punk rock mecca that is the Bowery. An international mural of toasts compliments the perfect pints and smiles flowing from the bar.

Despite the overflowing crowd, the atmosphere was exceedingly friendly. I could get actually to and from the bar (and the toilet) without spilling a drop.

One complaint that rang through the evening; the choice of music left a lot to be desired. With selections by Michael Jackson, AC/DC, Guns & Roses and others (many songs being played twice), you were left to wonder why they even hired a DJ. Most patrons I spoke with agreed that a CD player stocked with some choice Irish mixes would have done nicely.

All in all this is a wonderful new room to get a pint and meet friends. So stop by and welcome Sláinte to NYC. Just be sure to bring your Saw Doctors CD.
