Quaint, veggie friendly, organic goodness for lunch

This was my friend Amanda’s 30th birthday kickoff. A quiet lunch at a place known mostly as … well … a chick joint. You know the kind. Quaint, bright with things on the menu most men never consider. Like mesclun greens and orzo (wtf).

But if you want to eat healthy food with a low environmental impact, Josie’s Restaurant East (565 3rd Ave, NYC) is the place. Forget that you can practically hear the Sex and the City theme in the air. Disregard the sudden desire to buy overpriced shoes after dessert. Just relax and enjoy your meal in the soothing, quiet atmosphere of earth tones and dark wood.

The menu is a tasty variety of organic delights including plenty of vegetarian choices. It’s a bit pricey for an everyday lunch, but not bad for a celebration or romantic outing. I enjoyed my Warm Macadamia Chicken Salad. Complimenting the food was a decent selection of organic wines. Topping off the lunch was a dessert of molten chocolate and cheesecake that left me happy (and heavy) in my chair.

A word of warning; since this is an organic place, some menu items may not be available all the time. No worries, there is plenty to choose from.
