Election Day 2005

Did you get out and vote today?

Did you vote? I did. Earlier this morning I went to the polls, walked right up, gave my name and pushed a few buttons. I like voting here in Hoboken. There is never a line. This actually strikes me as kinda odd since it is such a densely populated little city. You’d think there would be a line but … nope. Do people just not vote around here? Or is it because I always vote at the crack of morning?

Did you get out and vote today?

Did you vote? I did. Earlier this morning I went to the polls, walked right up, gave my name and pushed a few buttons. I like voting here in Hoboken. There is never a line. This actually strikes me as kinda odd since it is such a densely populated little city. You’d think there would be a line but … nope. Do people just not vote around here? Or is it because I always vote at the crack of morning? Let’s face it, this being a drinkin’ town … Tuesday morning hangovers can be as common as any other.

Anyway, today we voted for, among other things, a new governor for New Jersey. Personally I wanted to see acting governor Codey run and win. He took over after McGreevy departed into the shadows of gay affairs, misguided governing and all around political tomfoolery. However, he once said that he could not seek office because it would require the abandonment of his principles. So who better to run such a corrupt state than a man with honest-to-goodness scruples? Why a man with boatloads of money of course.

So we were left with a group of less than desirable alternatives with Corzine and Forrester as the front-runners. With both having boatloads of money and questionable ties to the common man (you know … garden variety politicians), I voted for the one I considered to be the lesser of two evils. He was the one that I felt would be less likely to be bought by special interest groups. Now you may ask which one that is. I had intended to say it but instead find it more amusing to see if you can guess. The two are so similar that it’s not easy to do … is it? Especially towards the end of the campaign where one was changing his views to try and match the other’s popularity. Well, now you know how I felt in the booth this morning.

I should have written in ‘None of the Above’. If I thought for a second that they would count it, I would have. Ah, my solution to the corruption foiled by the corruption. Too bad though … it worked great in Brewster’s Millions!

By the way … it looks like Corzine is the winner.
