I’m very proud to be working on this year’s Hoboken Music Awards which will take place on November 20, 2010 at Northern Soul (557 First St, Hoboken).

The awards were founded in 2009 by Peoples Open Mic host and long-time supporter of local, original music Dave Entwistle. It was his way of bringing much-needed awareness to the still thriving Hoboken music scene. Thriving despite the constant loss of places to play and influx of lowest-common denominator attractions, chain stores and themed eateries.
Last year’s event was held at the now defunct (and much missed) Goldhawk. This year we are thrilled to have a new home at Northern Soul. It’s more than your usual neighborhood haunt. The owners wanted this to be a place for folks to enjoy good music and fine art as we ll as a great pint. And they’ve done that very well.
The nominees have been announced and a new website (hobokenmusicawards.com) built by yours truly is now up and running. I built it around the fantastic new logo by talented designer and singer for the band Las Vandelays Stacy Weidenmuller.
This year’s nomination process is a departure from last year. Nominations were polled by secret committee who took the following into consideration. Bands/artists need to have played in Hoboken regularly in the past year. Band categories are no longer broken down by style of music. Albums/EPs had to be self or independently released. And of course scene contributors were picked based on the impact they’ve had on the scene.
One process remains the same and that is the choosing of the Peoples Choice Award. Like last year, the general public can write in any band or performer they wish and send it to us. We than tally the votes and announce the winners the night of the event.
