I really cannot wait until this year’s jam. I hope to see a lot of familiar faces and (more importantly) a bunch of total strangers. In my heart Hoboken is still a music town. Maybe this is a selfish assumption since my li’l cafe likes to host music events. Or maybe I just fucking love music and could not bear to live in a town that is totally homogenized and whitewashed, exuding no discernible culture whatsoever.
Of course, last year’s event missed the mark by about 1500, but that wasn’t really the point. The point was to make music. To have fun with friends and neighbors. And in a world where neighbors are getting more insulated, more isolated, more separated from one another, this is a vital event.
So, if you wanna see this town explode in a musical frenzy, then come out on July 24, 2014 to Sinatra Park. I’ll be there. Let’s make some beautiful music together.
By the way; My song suggestion would be something from The Beatles. Preferably from their Ed Sullivan appearance. This is after all the 50th anniversary year of them coming to America. It just seems appropriate but any song will do.
