Thirty Day Sobriety Challenge – Day 8

Watch as my life spirals into control

Tonight I went to hang out with Lisa for a while. I was supposed to go over there for dinner, but went to my sister’s house to eat. By the time I got to Lisa’s, I was stuffed to the brim. Still I promised her we’d get ice cream. So we bided our time waiting on my digestion by watching TV and playing a game called ‘Fact or Crap’.

It’s sorta like a poor man’s trivial pursuit. The concept is each player reads three statements and the other players have to decide which are true.

The correct way of playing is to award players little chips for correct answers and take them away for incorrect answers. The one with the most chips at the end of the game, wins. Lisa added her twist by making it a drinking game. However, this being my day 8 of 30, we were forced to play the normal way. The questions are a bit on the lame side. One that made us laugh out loud was, “The cajon is a Latin-American fruit drink and not a drum.” The reason for our amusement was that we both once worked for Latin Percussion, the largest manufacturer and distributor of Latin drums in the world. We used to sell cajons. Then we went out for ice cream. I got soft vanilla with strawberries and peanut butter.

This got me thinking … I do tend to increase my vice of eating whenever I cut back on drinking or smoking. So today the salads, pasta, apple pie, ice cream and the sandwich I’m about to eat has left me feeling quite bloated. In the morning I’m gonna wake up early and take a good long walk to burn some of this off. For now I will continue finishing up those items I was working on yesterday and today. It feels good to be productive. Just don’t tell Lisa that I’m still not nearly done with our New Mexico story yet.
