Inventive improvisations from etherial to harsh, percussive flights, and sonic assaults
What a mesmerizing albeit enigmatic discovery. A guitar laid on it’s back. The strings drone on thru looped delay with objects tucked under as marbles are randomly rolled up and down the neck resulting in an ever changing soundscape. This is one of many experimental sound explorations of Brazilian artist Pedro Pagnuzzi. In another, tiny sea shells are set atop vibrating strings and moved randomly, creating an eerie ambiance.
His Instagram page is filled with all manner of inventive improvisations that range from etherial to harsh. A variety of found objects interplay with traditional instruments. Loud feedback and screeching tones accompanied by dogs barking. Marbles and shells and tiny buddha statuettes. Percussive flights and sonic assaults. A large amount of colorful and abstract visual art as well.
There’s a lot to take in, except for any real biographical information. All I could find about Pedro Pagnuzzi is that he’s from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and has had recordings released on Marmorno Records. He’s the director of Marmorno Radio, a non-profit visual sound art studio which has been streaming what they refer to as immersive soundscapes from the archives of Marmorno Records since 1998.
The lack of biographical information does not take away from the immense volume of work posted. Reel after reel, image after image of pure experimentation. A true avant garde artist letting his art be the center of attention. I also couldn’t find anywhere to purchase his work. However, I did find a link on archive.org where several of hgis older recordings can be downloaded.
Below are a few reels from his Instagram as well as samples of his visual art. Enjoy!
