Legendary and soulfully heavy North Jersey band releases their first new music in 10 years
I honestly can’t fully put into words just how happy this news makes me. One of my all time favorite bands and dear friends Crewman Number Six have recently released their first new music in ten years and it absolutely rocks. ‘Historical Documents: Volume 1‘ (Sep ’26) is a heavy-hitting, impeccably produced set of music. Yes, a four-song EP is a bit of a tease, but a fantastic tease nonetheless.
Way back in 2003, a defining moment in North Jersey music came to light. Loud, prog-inspired instrumental troupe Crewman Number Six finally scored an unlikely choice for a frontman. Ross Sandler had been groovin’ at local open mics with his brand of soulful acoustic songs. At their live debut in Hoboken in August of 2003, I described the meeting as, “The monster truck that is Crewman Number Six is now complete with fine Corinthian leather and a barefoot driver. Crushin’ Fiats while watchin’ the sunset.”
I was already a fan of each entity before that fateful night, only to become an even bigger fan of the new coalition. Now, over twenty three years later, that sentiment still rings true. The marriage of the two distinctly different styles of singer and band continues to bring magic. Solid drums, inventive bass, and intensely creative guitar mixed with that otherworldly soulful voice and well-crafted songs. It just works. It always has. It still does.
The Band:
Ross Sandler: vocals, lyrics, music, dancing, mc
Matt Schlesinger: – guitars, music, silly faces, dad jokes
Paul Guzzo – bass: music, lyrics, whiskey, mopars, sci-fi
Mark Birkelbach: drums, music, tech support, video games, sci-fi
More ‘Historical Documents’ are slated to be released and I can’t wait. I do wish they’d release the music on a download service, though. Frankly, I’m not a fan of streaming services. I prefer buying music over subscribing. Anyway, in the meantime you can listen ‘Historical Documents: Volume 1’ at the links below.
Cheers!
Stephen
