‘In Sound To All’ by ISTA
Have you heard of ISTA? Picture a fairly large, multi-piece band blending an abundance of influences into something lo-fi, high-spirited, and remarkably original. Each member bringing their own unique talent. This mix of garage rock, urban funk, and electronic dance results in a sound that serves a vibe of 60s psychedelia mixed with the playfulness of 80s arcade games and the majesty of 70s soul.
‘In Sound To All’ by this Brooklyn-based band is truly genre defying. I know that can be said about a lot of the music I gravitate too. Perhaps that’s why I do. I like being challenged. I like being surprised. Honestly, I was hooked upon hearing the opening pacman/space invaders inspired riff followed by a sudden attack from their core.
The band’s many seemingly opposing textures blend into something that simply just works. The rock tinged guitar/bass/drums. The gritty city vocals. The at times playful/lush keyboards. The stripped-down production. As the album progresses, the sound grows with the addition of horns and a choir of supporting vocals. Everyone contributing a slice of their own musical personality. The result is something refreshing and new.
‘In Sound To All’ by ISTA is available on Bandcamp.
Cheers!
